Ontario PSW Course Structure

Ontario PSW Course Structure

CBC Thunder Bay recently ran a story outlining one college teacher’s hope for standardized personal support worker courses.

Debra Walker, a teacher & program coordinator at Thunder Bay’s Confederation College is calling for standardization in terms of teaching hours and course curriculum.

Oddly enough, this is one wish that may come true. The group behind the PSW Registry has some political allies in Ontario–see last months blog post–and they may be able to use this influence to push through a standardized program titled PEPA (PSW Educational Program Accreditation).

Granted the program will benefit the group behind the PSNO as much as it will the province, but that’s a small price to pay for a more forward thinking curriculum.

Also within the CBC article is a short 6-7 minute interview with the teacher Debra, as well as a police officer who outlines the details of a recent PSW theft case.
