Newfoundland holds a 20 week training course, designated PCA (Personal Care Attendant). It can also be known as Home Support Worker. The 20 week length makes ‘PCA’ one of the shortest duration courses in all of Canada. Depending on the institution, the course is set up to be approximately 70% in-class training and 30% practical.
PCA’s work as individuals or part of a health care team, in a variety of workplace settings, helping to provide care to those in need and to improve overall quality of life.
Courses can be taught by private colleges and even employers, as outlined under the Private Training Institutions Act.
