Video: Deb Matthews Day of Home Care

The SEIU Healthcare Union recently sent out a press release and a must see video featured Ontario Health Care Minister Deb Matthews.

In the video Matthews tags along with a personal support worker during their home care rounds. They visit an 87 year old senior and a 22 year old physically challenged university student.

The video itself, clocking in at 4:30, is without a doubt the most effective pro home health care/psw video that I’ve seen released on the internet. From the editing, production, and content this video is top notch and really sheds a positive light on home health care; perfect for sharing with friends & family that don’t understand the field.

I personally hold Matthews in a place of contempt, stemming from broken promises around standardizing education, increasing funding, and the fiasco that is the PSW Registry.

Yet a part of me hopes that this short time spent out in the home care field will change Matthews perspective, changing her from a taking head to an advocate of the industry and personal support workers in general.
